Kitchen Progress
I had so many wonderful comments about the new color in the kitchen. Thank you guys so much, you know how to encourage a girl and make her feel like she's on the right track. I painted the walls the same color as the family room and breakfast area. Reliable White by Sherwin Williams. This is a really nice creamy white that goes with anything. I had so many comments about how much bigger the kitchen looks. It's not a "big" kitchen, but it is a generous size for a small house. It measures 17.2 ft. from backsplash to backsplash and 11.6ft. from the back of the range to the end of the island. So basically l7 x 11 1/2. It has plenty of cabinets. That's the only thing the builder didn't skimp on. I have 24 doors and 11 drawers plus the pantry.Since I was covering up Chocolate Brown, I knew it would take at least one coat of primer first. Remember when I did the hall bathroom makeover and every color white I chose turned out looking pink or green or yellow. Well I had 2 gallons of that "wrong" paint in the garage and it had primer in it. Each can was about 2/3 full, so I just mixed the two together to use as primer. It worked perfectly. I had 3/4 of a gallon of the Reliable White leftover, and that turned out to be enough to paint the kitchen. There's not a lot of wall space here, just around the cabinets. So this first step of the makeover was free. Just a lot of work.
I still need to get hubby to change out all the plugs and switches. With brown walls, I had them switched out to brown, now they need to go back to white. So hopefully that is on today's agenda so I can get the counters put back together.
I want a less is more approach to my decor so that is going to take a ton of purging. See all this stuff piled on the breakfast table, not all of that is going back. I need to edit big time.
I decided not to put any of the tin cans back up on top of the cabinets. I went with a "less is more" approach here too. (I know, there are still ladders everywhere.)
Above the fridge I chose to use my ammo basket, french breadboards and Amish rooster.
Super simple.
Over the range I kept my weather vane. I love how this piece is aging and such fabulous patina.
The side cabinets got a less is more approach also.
A pair of shaped wheat stalks and a demijohn.
I love my dad's old tool box, and thought it was perfect to go with my new horse.
Isn't the patino fabulous on this old box too. I remember seeing my dad carry this when I was a kid. It really was his everyday tool box.
Remember what it looked like as I started getting it ready to paint. Brown walls everywhere.
Ok, doing good so far. Now to decide what to do next. I think I will go ahead and paint the island, then not sure if I should do anything else until the floors go down. I know when they take up the tile and put down all the hardwood it will make a huge mess and I will probably have to repaint, but at least it won't be as bad as this time with covering up all the brown. I still havn't finalized which flooring I want to go with. There are 2 contenders, I just need to make up my mind. Since this is a major expense, I want to make sure I pick the right thing.
I am also deciding between Samsung and Frigidaire for all the appliances. Do you guys have any reviews about either that you would like to share?
